So. One minute we're all at the school, and the next minute we're in an airship hangar. Some recorded voice told us we were there to be put to the test, and that if we didn't go along with it, he couldn't guarantee our safety.

The test was to steal a whole airship.

Sounds like a perfectly normal test to me.

Sieghart heard the airship workers talking about diplomats and entertainers, so we dressed up for the part. I was the diplomat, with Sieghart as my bodyguard. Sakyou and Claude were the entertainers.

While we were looking for the right ship to steal, some guy in an orange jumpsuit stopped us and tried to get us to board another one. Apparently, he was tasked with escorting me-- the diplomat-- to a place called "Las Vegas."

[i wish i joking about las vegas]

... That doesn't sound like anywhere I know. And it's too creatively named to be somewhere here...?

Las Vegas? Never heard of it. Don't know what it's like.

No clue either. So we have no idea where you were taken, other than "not here".

While we were talking to the orange guy, a group of-- clowns, who were obviously the real entertainers-- entered the hangar and ruined our cover.

Claude tried to take me hostage, but I punched him. A clown got a hold of one of my weapons and used it to shoot at us. I got hit in the leg, and Sakyou got-- [WELL ANYWAY]

So Claude, Sieghart and I bolted for the airship as fast as we could.

[ he will never not love that two of you were dressed as clowns. ]

Claude tried to take you hostage? [ why, sir? ]

…

This sounds like a total clusterfuck.

He was trying to keep my cover from being blown. If they thought I was still a diplomat being taken hostage by a-- clown, maybe they'd let us escape to the airship unscathed.

I know this was a shitty experience for you, and it sucks you were all so injured, but you need to understand how much mira I would pay to see Claude in a clown costume trying to fake take you hostage in way less life-threatening circumstances.

. . . I didn't even know what a clown was until this stupid adventure.

Anyway, once we got the airship fired up, Sakyou just. . . reappeared on it, like nothing happened. We were on our way to some ruins, as per the stupid voice's command, but another airship was hot on our tail.

It started shooting at us.

[ wow! ]

So... teleportation, and gunfire. What else?

Uuuuh. We were shot out of the air, landed hard in the water, swam up to this-- island? With ruins on it, or something.

I passed out, so I'm not sure what happened next, but when I woke up again Claude was talking about "fake people" or whatever.

So there was more to it than just the whole "steal the entire airship" bit?

Yeah.

There was a ruined building, with people from-- from here, holding our friends from home hostage.

I stopped time so we could free the hostages. But after that--

[she pauses]

After that...?

[. . .]

I think they were killed. For failing the test.

... Yeah, this place is really out to mess with us, huh?

Yeah. It's-- stupid.

[curls in on herself a little more]

After that, I guess. . . we passed. Some guy in a gray hood gave us those applications for Chad and Viola, along with the map piece.

And then we were back on school grounds.

So, physical assault, emotional torture, clown suits -- and at the end you got some information. Looks like they want you to earn what they give you at the very least?

[ hm. ]

And then you come straight back here afterwards. Which is... I guess it makes sense but it seems like A Choice.

What does that mean? "A choice?"

Like... an interesting choice, kind of a shitty one. It's putting people through the wringer, then patting you on the back, handing you your lunchbox of new information and dumping you back where you started.

[ah. . .]

Almost like the whole thing was just for-- you know. Someone else's entertainment.
