[A beat.

She... bites her lip.

And then leans over to return the favor, biting Catra (gently!) on the forearm.

... BLEH. FUR.]

[Catra squeaks in surprise as she's shoved away, blinking a little like she isn't quite sure what to make of?? what just happened?? her bite was definitely hard enough to leave a bruise, so enjoy that, Adora]

Why does that keep-- I keep doing that, and it's so weird.

[Adora's definitely touching her neck to see if any blood was drawn (none, thankfully), before rolling her eyes.]

You have fangs, you know.

Uh, yeah? Cats have fangs, Adora. It's kind of our thing.

[settling at Adora's side now that she's done being a PEST]

[But now that Catra's comfortably done being a pest, Adora settles in more too.]

[also there's something weird glowing on her back now that evening has set in, and since they're not tussling around anymore, Adora can probably see it a little better. . .]

Well, if anyone here was going to see it, I guess it'd be you.

[She's still sorry, though. Adora closes her eyes for a moment, before she reaches out to frame Catra's face with both hands.]

... You're never going to have to deal with that again.

[that. . . does funny things to Catra's heart, which is now hammering heavily against her ribs, like the wings of a hummingbird. she stares at Adora with wide eyes, because clearly she didn't expect that kind of reaffirmation alongside the-- you know]

[intimate hands-against-her-cheeks thing]

Adora--?

I'm serious, Catra. [Insistently!!!

As she continues to hold her face.]

I'll never let that happen to you again. I promise.

[she doesn't-- know how to respond to that. part of her can't believe it. part of her has been burned too many times, by Adora and Scorpia and so, so many other people, that she wouldn't dare open herself up to hoping like that again]

[but part of her. . .]

[the other part of her remembers that Adora came bac]

[she presses her hands against the ones on her cheek, touch brief, before she pulls Adora into a hug]

[And Adora goes into that hug willingly, clutching Catra close in return, eyes sliding shut.]

I promise.

[She whispers that once more, for Catra's ears only, and then falls silent, content to just hold Catra close.

She knows this doesn't make up for everything that's happened between them--but it feels better than things have felt in a long time.]

[. . . and for once. . . Catra feels like she can believe that promise. believe it in a way she's never been able to believe Adora before]

[she settles into that hug, melts against the curve of Adora's body until they're pressed extremely close. this is cuddling?? this is cuddling!!]

[they're definitely cuddling now]
