I don't know. Some people just...really care about keeping other people safe. Even at their own expense. [there's no diplomatic way of saying this.] Especially when there are people they really, really care about. Sometimes they care so much they don't actually realize they're hurting the other person.

[a pause.] And sometimes, I guess, people don't know how to stop trying to live up to expectations other people gave them.
